Ascension Mosque

It is sobering and saddening to see the sacred places where Jesus' great acts took place, owned by the Muslim religion. Here again, we had to enter a mosque in order to reflect on one of Jesus' greatest acts.... His Ascension into heaven.

Jesus ascended from a high point on the Mount of Olives (which is very near Bethany - the village where Jesus often stayed in the home of Martha, Mary and Lazarus) ....remember that the Mount of Olives is the place from where Jesus often preached and prophesied while in Jerusalem. In the pictures, the little octagonal mosque is directly over the spot where Jesus was last seen on earth and ascended in front of his disciples.

Also, you will see Veronica standing over the spot where it is believed still lies one of the footprints of Jesus. Tradition says that the other footprint was "taken" by the muslims and is now found in Mecca in the central holy place where the muslims parade.

Luke 24, 50-53
Then he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. While he blessed them, he parted from them, and was carried up into heaven. And they worshiped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple blessing God.
