Basilica of the Visitation

Luke 1, 39-45
In those days mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a city (Ain Karim) of Judah, and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leapt in her womb; Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and she exclaimed with a loud cry, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!"

We learned that Zechariah was a wealthy man as his vocation was that of one of the priests of the Temple in Jerusalem. At the time of Jesus, the Priests were well cared for and owned much property and wealth. It has been noted by Biblical scholars that such was the case of Zechariah.

Elizabeth was at their "summer farm" outside of Jerusalem about 5 km when Mary visited her.

The site is in the hills sand very beautiful. The church is well crafted and displays the Magnificat in 180 languages....

Luke 1, 46-56
And Mary said,
"My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour, for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden.
For behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed;
For he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
And his mercy is on those that fear him from generation to generation....."

How magnificent the calling of Mary and Elizabeth!
