Christian tradition says that Jesus taught the disciples to pray while he was praying on the Mount of Olives.
Christian tradition is based on historical evidence of early remains of churches pre and post Bysantine , then mosques, then churches again after the crusades found on continuously the same spots throughout the Holy Lands where pilgrims have continuously worshiped...among other historical evidences.
The church on the spot of the teaching of The Our Father, contains over 200 language representations of the Pater Nostrum.
Here, Rebekah is standing in front of the Aramaic version, which was the language in which Jesus is said to have spoken.
Luke 11, 1-4
He was praying in a certain place, and when he ceased, one of the disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.". And he said to them, "When you pray, say 'Father, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom. Thy will be done. Give us each day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation....'"
